🍊🇧🇿 Orange Walk District
ORANGE WALK —
SUGAR CAPITAL
Orange Walk District is the sugar bowl of Belize — vast cane fields, the Lamanai jungle temple, Blue Creek's Mennonite farms, and the warm Mestizo culture of the north. The town of Orange Walk sits on the New River, connecting the district's agricultural heart to the coast.
Iconic Landmarks
🌿
Lamanai — Submerged Crocodile
One of the most spectacular Maya sites in the Americas — Lamanai (Submerged Crocodile in Yucatec Maya) was continuously occupied for over 3,000 years, from 1500 BC to the 1600s AD. Set on the banks of the New River Lagoon, the journey to Lamanai by boat through jungle waterways — watching crocodiles, manatees, and howler monkeys — is itself one of the great adventures of Belize.

Tower Hill Sugar Factory
The Tower Hill Sugar Factory is the largest industrial facility in Belize and the backbone of Orange Walk's economy. During cane season (November–May), thousands of tons of sugarcane are processed into raw sugar for export. It is the lifeblood of northern Belize and one of the most important employers in the entire country.
🐊
New River & Wildlife
The New River winds through Orange Walk District, lined with mangroves, water hyacinths, and incredible wildlife. Crocodiles sun themselves on the banks, West Indian manatees drift through the lagoon, jabiru storks wade in the shallows, and howler monkeys shake the riverside trees. It is one of the great wildlife corridors of Central America.
