BELIZE CITY โ€”
THE OLD CAPITAL
Belize City is the beating heart of the nation. The largest city, the cultural capital, the commercial engine โ€” and the place where Kriol culture was born. From the Swing Bridge to the Cathedrals, from Yarborough to Belama, this is where Belize's story lives.
Iconic Landmarks
๐ŸŒ‰
Swing Bridge
The only manually operated swing bridge in the Americas still in use. Built in 1923, it crosses Haulover Creek in the heart of Belize City and swings open twice daily to let boats pass. It is the most iconic landmark in Belize โ€” and the meeting point of the city.
๐Ÿ”ฑ
St. John's Cathedral
Built in 1812 using bricks used as ballast on slave ships, St. John's Cathedral is the oldest Anglican church in Central America and one of the oldest buildings in Belize. Four Mosquito Coast kings were crowned here in the 1800s.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ
Museum of Belize
Housed in the old colonial prison, the Museum of Belize holds the nation's finest collection of Maya jade, artefacts, colonial history, and natural history. The centerpiece is an extraordinary collection of Maya jade and ceramics spanning 3,000 years.
๐ŸŒฟ
Altun Ha โ€” The Belikin Temple
Just 45 minutes from Belize City, Altun Ha is the most visited Maya site in Belize. The Temple of the Masonry Altars is the image on every Belikin beer bottle. The site yielded the largest carved jade object ever found in the Maya world โ€” the jade head of the Sun God.
๐Ÿฐ
Fort George & Baron Bliss Lighthouse
The Baron Bliss Lighthouse at Fort George marks the spot where Belize City meets the Caribbean Sea. Named for Baron Henry Edward Bliss โ€” the English nobleman who left his entire fortune to Belize โ€” it is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the Belize City waterfront.

WHERE BELIZE BEGAN
Belize City was built on swamp and mangrove by the hands of enslaved Africans who cut mahogany from the jungle. It survived hurricanes, colonial rule, and the move of the capital to Belmopan. It is still standing, still swinging its bridge twice a day, still the heart of the nation. RideBelize is proud to serve every corner of this city.
